Back in 2004 the Post was still
in the yearly playoff hunt and went all the way to the Championship game before being beaten out
by Yale St. Funding 9-7. Bobby Nichols led the team in hitting with a .462 average and Rich
Auricchio enjoyed one of his finest seasons hitting .457 and leading the team in runs (16), hits (21),
rbis (16) and doubles (3). Rich's son Danny made his Post 701 debut that year getting 2 hits
in 8 at bats and over the next 6 years has solidified his mark as one of the premier players in
the AA League. In the 21-5 romp over RR, Danny went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored, which gave him
101 for his career and his rbi single in the sixth was his 100th in his 7 years in the Post
uniform. He is only the 5th 701ers to score 100+ runs and the 4th to reach the 100 rbi mark.
His next hit will tie him with Bill McCord for 8th place on the all-time hit parade, not bad
company for the young vet. His next homerun will tie him with his Dad for first with 12 as he
continues his assault on the Post 701 offensive records.
